Protester shot in illorin demonstration
Hi
I hope you had a wonderful christmas and new year with your loved ones with happiness and love in your homes. Wishing you even more of such blessing health prosperity from our creator. And love from all corners of the earth.
Me? Had the worst christmas and new year break ever. Will write about it in the see me see trobu series.
But something wicked here lies. Look i know the arguments for the removal of the fuel subsidy. Here is a Comprehensive List of The Projects that 'Shall' Be Funded by the Fuel Subsidy Savings. Whilst it looks good on paper, You are Advised to apply the usual caveats...'Caveat Emptor"...
Then the terrible timing, while the bulk of Nigerians are still on holidays (travellers like me just going back to work will be severly hit) and like my caveat says: what is the assurance that the monies realised will not still be 'stolen'? none. Business(read corruption) IS going on as usual. So far nothing has impressed me in his leadership more brazen terror threats than ever before. He really seems clueless..just take a look at his slogan
Here are stories from around blogsville:PPPRA Announces Formal Removal of Subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
Following extensive consultation with stakeholders across the nation, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) wishes to inform all stakeholders of the commencement of formal removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), in accordance with the powers conferred on the agency by the law establishing it, in compliance with Section 7 of PPPRA Act, 2004.
By this announcement, the downstream sub-sector of the petroleum industry is hereby deregulated for PMS. Service providers in the sector are now to procure products and sell same in accordance with the indicative benchmark price to be published forthnightly and posted on the PPPRA website.
Petroleum products marketers are to note that no one will be paid subsidy on PMS discharges after 1st January 2012.

According to a bloggers intepretation of this photo
NGOZI OKONJO: "Lets just lie to them and cheat Nigeria, they'll believe cos I'm the top liar of the WorldBank..We are international and they are poor peasants..mind you, only govt ministers use petrol and SUV's in Nigeria so we should keep... it like that.."
SANUSI: "N1Trillion Naira can bribe anybody..you got me roped in I guess..Hmmm, everybody benefits except the masses-Cool!"
IMF: "You have my blessings you greedy folks...Impoverish your people and help clear French debts..will send BNP Paribas over to you for further discussions! I laugh at Nigerian masses!!" #Thunder Fire Una plus GEJ govt!!!

This is the then president aspirant whose slogan was fresh air.Thats all he promised and even he cant deliver on that.
Like I wrote in another blog; that Nigeria is an oil producing nation does not mean that we should buy petrol for FREE. Since most Nigerians don't pay their taxes, it becomes pertinent that government collects their tax from this fuel deregulation.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with first anon:
ReplyDeleteSanusi printed N1trn to subsidise failure in our banks. Another N1trn+ went to AMCON to subsidise failed loans and businesses including many of the same oil marketers.
Every reasonable person knows there is a problem with the subsidy administration but doing things like this can never be the answer.
Just wiping away 3 - 5 years worth of progress that people have made literarily overnight
The protests were not even televised. The TV stations have failed us and proved their incompetence.
ReplyDeleteeven with the removal of the fuel subsidy, PMS is still cheaper in Nigeria than in most African countries. The wisdom in the policy can be gleaned from Ghana removing the last batch of its own subsidy last week without any opposition. It was just an announcement, and Ghanaians did not take to the streets.
ReplyDeleteThis "Mr. Nigerian Masses" seems to be a very interesting specie; just while several movements and bodies are protesting on his behalf, he seems to be content buying the same unsubsidized fuel at the filling stations. So who actually is this Man? And is he in contact with those who are agitating on his behalf?
ReplyDeleteBreaking News! Federal Govt announces pallatiave measures to minimize the impact of the fuel subsidy removal. Every Nigerian household to be supplied two bags of Abakaliki rice monthly. Every Nigerian child under the age of 16, will be provided one loaf of cassava bread daily. For further information, please contact the local office of the Fuel Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Board (FSREPB),in your respective states. Email- freecassavabreadandabakalikirice@fuelsubsidyremoval.gov.ng OR +234 1 800 FUEL SUBSIDY. To be eligible you must have paid at least N150 per litre for petrol or diesel.Pls keep fuel receipts as proof of purchase.
ReplyDeletebut seriously this press release boggles the mind:
“Deregulation has just started. So, any member of the public who has information on marketers who are not following the rules should forward it to us, so that we will give such information to our inspection team,”-
So it is by force that u breast feed ur children forever? Not at all, maybe till adulthood, never is it an obligation to breast feed a child forever.
ReplyDeleteNigerians need to wake up and buckle up and stop relying on govt Greek gifts, only then can they hold govt accountable, only then can we develop as a nation, painstakingly a step @ a time. After 42 yrs of Petroleum products subsidy if it hasn't made such an impact that the people are still totally dependent on breast milk; then it is time to review that policy. My people make una no go die for nothing.

......if you are a car owner, Oga Jonah go take fuel subsidy slap you, and even plus including toll charges by Zaccheus. If You decide to become a 'winch for Jesus', and 'fly away' to avoid fuel subsidy removal+toll charges, Papa Oyedepo go wozz you slap. This na real double wahala for deadi bodi. #FuelSubsidy
ReplyDeletePeople should stop all this writing and go out and protest! this protest againt removal of fuel subsidy is led by prominent bodies who are more educated, older, richer, prominent and celebrated than you guys. Go through the list of people protesting you will know that it's not a joke be decisive with your take on this issue of subsidy . You guys are the kinds who betray this great country when others have agreed to follow a track to fight for their right. I read comments and know some of you can be so poor compare to those protesting yet you guys come here and comment as if you are not affected. You said GEJ has done alot and I ask on what ground? Corruption became normal since GEJ became the President, use of Bomb by angry bodies like the Boko was easy after billions he just spent on security, they take annual pay as if Nigeria is their personal investment company, they don't respect the view of fellow Nigerians which is most annoying knowing how much people contributed in putting them on that seat, they recently announced some money missing from Iwu's house ( former INEC chairman ) this is after he left office so what of when he was in office? Meaning x5 would have been kept in the house not even in the bank. Bode George kept about 88 billion till date nothing was done to him after the arranged prison story n celebrated in church for coming out bcos GEj needed him as a catalyst so yorubas can vote for him. If Tinubu collects about 3billion from fashola every month in lagos for being a God father, ask urself how much is Obansanjo collecting from GEJ?schools go on strike for not paying lecturers yet they sit in one spot and share bags of money, where are they taking the money to when they die bcos one day we all must leave this earth. Bankole was another case he was allowed to go free, ibori, lucky igbenedion,Obansanjo n Atiku opened their mouth to call each other names and leaking secrets yet we over looked them,GEJ's wife started owning refineries all by herself the same year GEJ was elected As President ,think deep people. I ask this now.. Why do top pastors, politicians and celebrated people send their children oversea to study and live if they truly believe Nigeria will be good or is good?why do all of the above mentioned set of people shop oversea? why do they go oversea for medical care? I live abroad and I have this friend whose father is a politician and he came to the US with his sister, their father(politician) sends them 10,000 dollars each every month for feeding for good 4yrs until after graduation when the politician decided the kids should return to Nigeria to start work but these two spoilt kids said NO that they wanted to stay in the US bcos what they get from their father monthly is what 5 poor families will spend in 6months, these are people who keeps preaching that Nigeria is our own that we should all join hand to make it work ,fine why are their kids abroad and not joining hands to make Nigeria good "Abi dey no be human beings"?after all Nigeria has what it takes to establish it all but this same people will do everything possible to kill the effort of establishing a standard health care, shopping malls, schools, transportation ,roads, electricity etc bcos they don't patronize them in Nigeria instead they fly overseas to get access to them. Nigeria is not the Nigeria of before, we know our rights and its democracy . So pls I feel pain when all these happens even though I live abroad . What happens in Nigeria affects Nigeria people abroad directly or indirectly whether you agree or not!!!!!!!
